Breaking: New York Times reports that Affordable Care Act Will Not Be Repealed Due To Votes

The New York Times broke the story today that House Speaker Paul Ryan “rushed” to the White House to explain to President Trump that he lacked the votes to repeal the Affordable Care Act (ACA). This is after Trumpsent an ultimatum to the House, vote or move on. Trump may have received the answer that there will be no vote.

There remains looming doubt from both moderate and conservative House GOP as to the likelihood of passage of the ACA replacement plan, the American Health Care Act (AHCA). The replacement plan has raised concerns about the number of uninsured and Medicaid cuts among moderate Republicans and concerns that the AHCA was simply “Obamacare lite” among conservative Republicans. Many House GOP Representatives took to social media to show their disproval of the proposed bill.

The House had previously been scheduled to vote on the AHCA last night, the seventh anniversary of the ACA’s enactment. House Speaker Paul Ryan postponed the vote last night due to his inability to shore up enough votes to pass the AHCA. The postponed vote was scheduled to today. With the realization that the House still did not have enough votes, the AHCA was pulled from a vote today.

In the aftermath, Ryan held a press conference, resigning to the fact that the ACA would remain the law of the land “for the foreseeable future.” The Republicans will be moving on to tax reform, which like healthcare,is not going to be an easy issue.
