Help for Farmers and Fishermen on Credit Errors

The IRS is giving extra to farmers and fishermen who missed this year’s March 2 deadline because they were sent incorrect premium tax credit 1095-A from the federal health insurance marketplace. They have until April 15 to file their 2014 returns and pay any tax due, with no penalty for late filing.

Farmers and fishermen requesting the extra time and penalty waiver must submit Form 2210-F with their tax return electronically or on paper. The taxpayer’s name and identifying number should be entered at the top of the form, the waiver box (Part I, Box A) should be checked, and the rest of the form should be left blank.

The CMS announced in late February that about 800,000 people who purchased insurance on Healthcare.gov were sent 1095-A forms with incorrect information about the amount of subsidy or premium tax credit they would receive.

Treasury has provided additional information online for taxpayers who already filed using an incorrect form, and said it will provide additional guidance soon. General information about the 1095-A error is available from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS).
