The nation’s individual insurance market grew 46% to 15.5 million people in insurance_form_150403the first year that plans could be purchased through

Affordable Care Act marketplaces, according to a study by the Kaiser Family Foundation.

Four states – California, Florida, Texas and Georgia — accounted for almost half of the enrollment growth. The number of people covered in the individual market increased by more than 75 percent in six other states: Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Maine, New York and Rhode Island.

The state-level analysis looked at 2014 recently submitted by insurers to state departments, and compared from December 2013 to December 2014.

The individual health insurance market enrollment figure had held fairly steady between 10.6 and 10.9 million from 2010 through 2013. Following implementation of the ACA marketplaces, enrollment rose to 15.5 million as of the end of 2014.
