Here’s a quick staffing update regarding new hires to come to the Department of Health and Human Services and the White House:
The role of Deputy Assistant Secretary for Health Technology will be filled by Dr. John Fleming, a physician formerly known as the 4th district Representative for Louisiana. While this position is newly created, Fleming does have some additional experience as the co-chair of the House GOP Doctors Caucus.
For the lead role of the HHS Office for Civil Rights, Roger Severino will take that position. His latest role as director of the DeVos Center for Religion and Civil Society at the Heritage Foundation is predated by his role as trial attorney for the Department of Justice Civil Rights Division under George W. Bush.
The White House also made some key staffing additions. Under the Office of Management and Budget, Joe Grogan has been added as the Director of Health Programs. Under George W. Bush, Grogan was the leader of Presidential Advisory Council on HIV/AIDS, as well previously an adviser to the FDA.
Under the White House’s National Economic Council, Brian Blase has been appointed to top healthcare policy staffer. Blase’s prior staffing experience includes staffing the House of Representatives Committee on Oversight and Government Reform and the Senate Republican Policy Committee.
