HHS Week 9 Snapshot: 400,000 Enroll

January 21, 2015 Robert Sheen Regulations

Just over 400,000 consumers selected Affordable Care Act plans on the federal health insurance exchange during the eighth week of open enrollment, the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) announced on Jan. 21. Total signups reached more than 7.16 million since the enrollment period began on Nov. 15, 2014.

The most recent report covers the period of Jan. 10 to Jan. 16.

The agency also released signup statistics for each of the 37 states that refer their residents to the HealthCare.gov website . These are detailed below.

HHS releases weekly snapshots of preliminary data drawn from the federal exchange, HealthCare.gov or CuidadodeSalud.gov, and callers to the federal call center at 800-318-2596.

Nearly 676,000 applications were submitted online in the latest week, bringing the total to 9.44 million applications submitted since enrollment opened.

The HealthCare.gov site was visited by more than 3.7 million consumers during the week, for a total of 21 million since enrollment opened. This compares to 152,000 during the week for the Spanish-language CuidadodeSalude.gov site, and a total of 775,000 since enrollment opened.

More than 1.3 million consumers contacted the call center during the most recent week. They waited an average of more than 11 minutes on hold. Callers seeking a Spanish-speaking representative waited about 19 seconds.

More than 786,000 visitors used the HealthCare.gov “window shopping” tool during the week to explore coverage options available to them. Almost 28,000 window-shopped on CuidadodeSalud.gov.
