HCTC Is Deciphered By The HHS

The Health Coverage Tax Credit (HCTC) has benefited many in affording healthcare coverage, as the ACA requires minimum essential coverage for all individuals. However, while the HCTC typically only applies to qualifying plans, the Department Of Health And Human Services has announced that a Hardship Exemption may be possible for those eligible.

The exemption can be claimed between the months of July through December of 2016, and applies to those who are eligible for the HCTC but do not have a qualifying plan. If in between one or more of those months an individual was eligible for the credit but didn’t have the plan, the HHS explains that they may be covered through a Hardship Exemption.
